EXPLOSIVE NEW BOOK ABOUT PETER FALK: BEYOND COLUMBO

PETER FALK: HOLLYWOOD’S MOST UNLIKELY LEADING MAN

New York, NY - 06/02/2016 /EASY NEWSWIRE/ — William J. Birnes and Richard A. Lertzman (The Life and Times of Mickey Rooney from Gallery/Simon & Schuster and “Dr. Feelgood (Skyhorse) are proud to announce the publication of their newest book, Beyond Columbo: The Life and Times of Peter Falk.

Scheduled for release on October 20, 2016, the book will chronicle the eclectic life of the bon-vivant, Emmy Award winning actor. The book will trace Falk's life from being an applicant for the CIA, to the mentorship of legendary acting legend Eva LaGallienne, his break-out-Academy Award nominated role in Murder Inc., to countless films and television roles that led up to his iconic turn for nearly 35 years as Lt. Columbo.  Among his fondly remembered parts were in classic films including It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, A Pocket Full of Miracles, Robin and the Seven Hoods, The In-Laws, Husbands, The Cheap Detective and The Princess Bride. The book will trace Falk’s life, his close friendship with director/actor John Cassavetes (and their classic films together), his films with legendary names such as Frank Sinatra, Glenn Ford, Frank Capra, Dean Martin, Spencer Tracy and countless others to his final days and struggle with dementia.

The book was written with the cooperation of Peter Falk’s daughter Catherine Falk.

“There was nothing typical or Hollywood about Peter Falk. He was not leading man material standing less than 5’6” with one glass eyes, a rumpled appearance and the delivery of a New York cabbie. Yet he became a television icon as Columbo, winning five Emmy awards. Falk just exploded on the screen with the vagueness of Bob Dylan and the naturalness of Spencer Tracy. An intriguing concoction. Legendary director Frank Capra, who directed Peter to an Academy Award nomination in “Pocketful of Miracles” proclaimed Falk to be the “real deal” and one of the greatest actors he had ever worked with.  As Columbo, his portrayal was unmatched as his fans awaited his utterance, “Just one more thing…” remarked co-author Richard A. Lertzman.

New York Times best-selling author, William J. Birnes added, “What an eclectic life he led. From a hardworking, Jewish family in the Hudson Valley in New York, he became a Merchant Marine, had a bachelor's degree in literature and political science, worked on a railroad in Yugoslavia for six months, received a Masters from Syracuse University, was turned down in his application to work in the CIA due to his affiliation with the Merchant Marines union, became a management analyst with the Connecticut State Budget Bureau and on a fluke he became an actor who trained under the great Eva LaGallienne . Falk was nearly thirty before he became a professional actor.”

Catherine Falk, Peter’s daughter, who has created the Catherine Falk Organization to change state laws with the 'Peter Falk bill' regarding the Right of Association for elders and persons with disabilities when wrongly isolated from family and friends by a guardian, due to her own experiences she encountered with her father when he became incapacitated-- was able to help the authors present an intimate look at Peter Falk.

“So many of his admirers believe my father was actually Lt. Columbo, yet he was such a far more complex and brilliant man. I am so grateful that his life story will be told in this definitive biography from Rick & Bill. His story, a real life Horatio Alger story, needs to be told,” remarked Catherine Falk.

The book, “Beyond Columbo: The Life and Times of Peter Falk” will be released October 20th by Prestige Cinema Publishing Group as part of its “Master”   series

It will be available in both a hardcover and Ebook version, along with an Audiobook version. A documentary, based on the book, is also being planned.
