New Startup Wants More Babies to Sleep in Cardboard Boxes

Finnbin has launched with sights set on more newborns sleeping in their cardboard boxes, bringing a beloved Finnish tradition to more families around the world.

PARK CITY, UT - 12/13/2016 /EASY NEWSWIRE/ — Taking a page out of the over 80-year Finnish tradition, new company, Finnbin, has launched in the U.S. with sights set on bringing this highly regarded approach to more families stateside and around the globe. The tradition in Finland goes back to the 1930s when the country had one of the highest infant mortality rates with 65  out of 1000 infants dying within their first year. The implementation of the box program is hailed as a public health success and today Finland has one of the lowest infant mortality rates globally, largely attributed to this tradition.

Finnbin has launched with plans to provide as many families as possible with access to their curated boxes of baby and parent essentials, including its Boxinet™, providing a safe and portable sleeper for newborns up to 25 pounds and 25 inches long. Each Finnbin contains over 45 items from top brands including Aden + Anais, Skiphop, Dapple, Magnificent Baby and Lollaland.

“When my wife and I were expecting our daughter we were of course overjoyed with her upcoming arrival, but also stressed and overwhelmed with everything we thought we needed,” says Finnbin co-founder Shawn Bercuson. “At that time I read about the tradition in Finland and realized what an amazing gift that would be: a box that instantaneously provided us with the essentials to prepare us for when our baby arrived.”

In an age where baby sleepers are wired, tech-driven, can shake and rock, Finnbin is hoping to appeal to families looking for simpler approaches. While it may not be conventional for babies to sleep in cardboard boxes, Finnbin plans to change that. In addition to the Boxinet™ (which includes a sleeping pad, a water-resistant cover and a fitted sheet) Finnbin boxes contains over $800 worth of goods ranging from onesies to bottles and books to nursing pads and condoms for parents.

“We spent a lot of time curating and reaching out to the brands we loved and used for our own children,” says co-founder Catherine Merritt. “Not only do new parents get the essentials when their Finnbin arrives, they’re getting items from some of the best, most awarded brands. We made sure that everything included within a Finnbin was top quality and selected brands they’ll love for a long time.”

Finnbin is launching with a limited number of boxes available now for purchase with shipments beginning in January 2017.  Finnbin can be purchased on its website: www.finnbin.com
